Scrum, and Straight to the Wide

Starting position

Fifteen against fifteen, one scrum, and a ball that does not stop before the line. Both packs lock in, the ball comes out at the base, and from there everything moves fast: the fly-half takes it already running, fixes his man and moves it wide. The ball goes from hand to hand without ever coming back, each carrier just holding his defender a fraction of a second before giving. The opposition curtain slides across, but it always slides a beat late. At the end of the chain the fullback appears in the channel that has opened up, takes it at full speed and only has to finish in the corner. Nothing more than a clean base and four accurate passes — which is usually all it takes when the scrum holds.
