The Double Fake

Starting position

One lineout, and two decoys for a single real move. First fake jump on the 5, lifted by the 4 and the 8: the forwards opposite set themselves, certain the ball is going to the middle. Right after it, the 8 leaves his slot and slips round the back of the lineout, to the right — he walks out of the picture and nobody follows him. Second decoy: the 7 goes up in turn, and the 5, who has just pretended to jump, now pretends to lift. The whole pack opposite is busy contesting a ball that will never come. That is when the throw goes, long, right over the entire lineout, and finds the 8 alone behind it with the 6 in support. Two against nobody. The lineout was not won, it was bypassed.
