Starting position

A five-metre lineout with not a trick in sight. No decoy, no double movement, no fake jump: just speed. The throw goes to the front, the jumper is up, the ball is taken cleanly and comes straight back down. In under a second the maul is already moving. The ball goes to the back, secured immediately, and from there it is your pick: the 8 takes it and goes, or the 9 fires it. The Scots had prepared for the set plays, they were waiting for the decoy. Italy simply went fast and won the race to the ground. Sometimes the best lineout is the simplest one. Quick ball is try ball.
